Welcome, Shinigami, Arrancar, and Quincy, to the fierce fighting world of Bleach: Rebirth of Souls.
As a new fighting game inspired by the iconic Bleach anime/manga series, this game comes with various unique combat mechanics that might feel a bit complex for new players, especially if this is your first Bleach game or fighting game.
Some features are also new compared to previous games.
Don’t worry if you feel a little overwhelmed at first.
This Bleach: Rebirth of Souls beginner’s guide is here to give you essential tips to quickly understand how to play, master the core combat system, and, of course, achieve more victories.
Essential Tips for Bleach: Rebirth of Souls Beginners
Here are some key tips you need to understand and practice:
1. Vary Your Attack Style (Don’t Just Spam Buttons!)
The main key in combat is not to be monotonous.
Master and combine various types of attacks to break through your opponent’s defense:
- Quick Attacks: Use these as openers, to pressure opponents, and most importantly, to string together chain combos that deal significant damage.
- Heavy Strikes: These attacks are usually slower but stronger. Effective for breaking the guard of opponents who are just blocking (guard break), or sometimes have ranged attack functions (depending on the character).
- Counter Attacks: A crucial defensive mechanic. Learn the timing to perform a counter-attack when your opponent strikes you. This not only stops their attack but also opens them up for your counter-offensive.
- -> The Bottom Line: Don’t get stuck on one type of attack. Combine Quick Attacks for combos, mix in Heavy Strikes for guard breaks, and stay ready with Counter Attacks.
2. Understand the Reishi & Destroy Opponent’s Konpaku System (Key to Victory)
These are the core mechanics for winning fights in Bleach: Rebirth of Souls:
- Reishi:
Think of this as an indicator of the opponent’s endurance or posture (different from traditional HP bars in some games).
This bar shows how much damage has been received and how close the opponent is to being ‘open’ or staggered.
Reducing Reishi is the first step towards victory.
- Konpaku:
This is the number of lives or ‘stocks’ each character has in a single fight. Your ultimate goal is to destroy ALL of the opponent’s Konpaku.
- Winning Process:
- Use your various attacks (the general system is called Zan Ken So Ki) to deal damage and reduce the opponent’s Reishi until it’s depleted.
- When the opponent’s Reishi is empty or their guard is broken, they become vulnerable. This opens an opportunity to perform a Soul Break or other powerful attacks.
- These powerful attacks will trigger a prompt to perform a Kikon.
- Kikon is a special finishing move. If it successfully hits an opponent in a vulnerable state, Kikon will destroy one of the opponent’s Konpaku.
- Repeat this process (reduce Reishi -> trigger Kikon -> destroy Konpaku) until all of the opponent’s Konpaku are gone to win the fight!
3. Utilize Awakening & Sublimation for Extra Damage
Use these mechanics to turn the tide or finish off opponents quickly:
- Awakening/Reawakening:
Pay attention to your character’s Spirit Gauge. When this gauge is full and starts glowing, you can activate Awakening mode.
This mode usually grants increased damage, speed, or access to new skills temporarily.
Some characters even have a Reawakening stage (a second transformation) after the first Awakening.
- Sublimation:
While in Awakening mode, keep attacking the opponent to build up Fighting Spirit.
If you successfully reach a certain level, you will enter the Sublimation status.
Its main advantage is increasing the damage of your basic Kikon Move, making it much more effective at destroying the opponent’s Konpaku!
4. Use Reverse Actions Wisely (Comeback Mechanics)
At the bottom of your character’s screen, there is a Reverse Gauge. This gauge allows you to perform three types of very useful Reverse Actions if used at the right moment:
- Soul Reverse (White Color):
Stops your current action, increases Spiritual Power (likely a resource for special skills), and recovers some of your Reishi. Useful for getting out of pressure or resetting your strategy.
- Chain Reverse (Yellow Color):
Allows you to continue a combo that should have ended, giving you a chance to deal more damage and also increasing Spiritual Power. Excellent for maintaining offensive momentum.
- Burst Reverse (Blue Color):
This is a life-saving defensive action. If you are being hit by an opponent’s combo, use this to forcibly cancel their combo and restore your Guard gauge. Use it when you’re truly pressured!
–> The Bottom Line: Each Reverse Action has a unique function and likely uses a different amount of the gauge. Learn the best time to use each of these actions.
5. Utilize Battle Stages for Routine Practice
Having trouble mastering combos or other mechanics? The Battle Stages (or a similar practice mode) are the place for you!
- Don’t hesitate to spend time in this mode to test out various characters, practice combo execution, learn the timing for counter-attacks and Kikon, and understand how to handle matchups against different types of enemies or AI.
- Each stage might offer different locations or opponents, providing good training variety before you jump into real battles against other players.
Additional Notes for Beginners
- Adaptation Time: It’s normal if you need time to get used to all these mechanics, especially if you’re new to fighting games or the Bleach franchise. Don’t get discouraged and keep practicing!
- Common Enemies: Most of your fights will likely be against fellow Soul Reapers (Shinigami) or Hollows (including Arrancar), so learn their attack patterns.
Conclusion
Mastering the combat basics in Bleach: Rebirth of Souls – like varying attacks, understanding the Reishi/Konpaku/Kikon system, utilizing Awakening/Sublimation, and strategically using Reverse Actions – is a crucial first step to becoming a formidable player.
Use this beginner’s guide as the foundation of your knowledge, and most importantly, don’t forget the power of practice in the Battle Stages.
With dedication, you’ll surely be fighting as cool as the iconic Bleach characters soon. Good luck and have fun.
