Welcome to the vast oceans of Roblox Dead Sails! If you’ve just stepped onto the deck of your ship, this challenging maritime survival game might seem a bit confusing.
But don’t worry, Captain! This game takes you on an exciting adventure as a ship captain who must sail straight ahead for 100,000 meters, while keeping the ship running, surviving sea monsters, and collecting treasure.
This Dead Sails beginner’s guide is designed specifically for you, covering all the game basics, crucial first steps, and essential tips and tricks to ensure your maiden voyage goes smoothly. Let’s get started.
Understanding the Basics of Dead Sails
The core of Dead Sails is quite simple yet challenging:
- Main Goal: Sail straight ahead as far as possible, with the ultimate target of reaching 100,000 meters.
- Captain’s Duties: Keep the ship’s engine running with fuel, repair damage, survive attacks from monsters and environmental hazards, and sell valuable goods found to earn money (Dabloons).
- Main Activities: Managing resources (especially fuel), fighting sea creatures and other pirates, and exploring floating structures or small islands for loot.
First Steps: Starting Your Voyage (Very Important!)
When you first start Dead Sails, you’ll be given a starting capital of 15 Dabloons. Now, here’s where your first decision is absolutely crucial:
DO NOT SPEND your initial Dabloons on buying a new ship, healing items, or weapons in the shop! This is a common beginner mistake. The starting ship is sufficient, and other items can be found.
Use those 15 Dabloons to SPIN FOR A CLASS. Go to the “Buy Classes” section in the main lobby. Each spin costs 3 Dabloons. With 15 Dabloons, you can perform 5 spins.
Why Spin for a Class First? Classes in Dead Sails provide passive benefits or starting items that will greatly help you throughout the game. Getting a good class early on is far more valuable than buying ordinary items. There are various classes with different rarities (Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary). Choose the class that best suits your playstyle later.
For a complete detail on which classes are best and worth aiming for, please see our separate Dead Sails Class Tier List guide.
Town: Shelter and Trading
Every time you successfully sail 10,000 meters, you will find a Town.
Towns are safe zones where you can rest, replenish supplies, and trade without fear of monster attacks.
Take advantage of the following facilities in town:
- Trading Hut: Where you sell all the valuable goods (loot) you’ve collected.
- General Store: Where you buy various necessary items. The TOP PRIORITY here is buying Coal for your ship’s fuel!
- Hospital: Where you can heal if injured, by paying a certain amount of Dabloons.
- Gun Shop: Where you buy new weapons and ammunition.
- Sheriff’s: Bring the bodies of pirates or monsters here to get Dabloon rewards (bounty).
Essential Tips & Tricks for Dead Sails Beginners
Here are some essential tips that every new captain must know:
1. Fuel Management (Fuel is Life!)
- Your ship needs constant fuel. Without fuel, the ship stops, and you become vulnerable to attacks.
- Coal is the best fuel source, filling 20% of the fuel tank per item. Always prioritize buying it in town.
- Other items (wood, trash, etc.) only fill 5% of the fuel tank. Use them only if desperate.
- Emergency Tip: Bodies of defeated enemies can also be put into the furnace as fuel (though they provide very little).
2. Surviving the Night
- Nighttime in Dead Sails is much more dangerous, with more monsters spawning.
- Best Strategy: Try to be in a Town when night falls.
- If Caught at Sea: Use Barbed Wire (if you have it) and place it along the edges of the ship’s deck to prevent monsters from climbing aboard.
- Without Barbed Wire: Don’t panic and keep moving. A safer strategy is often to stop completely, face and defeat all approaching monsters, then continue your journey when things are safer or morning arrives.
3. Choosing Early Weapons
- Weapon choice can depend on preference and the class you get.
- The Shotgun is generally very effective against multiple enemies at close range on the ship deck.
- The Revolver is a decent and versatile early-game option if you find one.
4. Loot! Valuable Items and Securing Them
- The basic economic principle in Dead Sails: Sell almost every item you find at the Trading Hut for Dabloons.
- Most Valuable Items to Look For:
- Gold Llama: The most expensive item in the game!
- Moyai (stone head) & Bars (gold, silver, etc.)
- Healing Packs (can be used or sold if not needed)
- Crosses (very useful against some enemies, or sellable)
- Weapons you don’t use.
- Robot Head.
- Holy Water.
- Securing Loot on the Ship: You can stack many items on your ship’s deck. But, to prevent them from falling off when the ship moves or gets hit by waves, YOU MUST press the Z key (default) while aiming your cursor at the item stack to WELD it to the deck! Do this for every stack of items.
Key Points to Remember
- Fuel: Keep the fuel tank filled, prioritize Coal.
- Town: Use it as a safe place to sell/buy (especially Coal) and heal.
- Starting Dabloons: Spend them on class spins, DO NOT buy other items.
- Looting: Take all valuable items, sell in town. Don’t forget to Weld item stacks on the ship (Z key).
- Nighttime: More dangerous. Ideally be in town, or use Barbed Wire / stop and fight if at sea.
- Classes: Provide important advantages, try to get a good one early.
Conclusion
Starting your adventure in Roblox Dead Sails might feel challenging at first, but by understanding the basics and following the tips in this beginner’s guide, you’re on the right track.
Focus on fuel management, utilize towns wisely, collect as much loot as possible (and don’t forget to weld it!), and be wary of the dangers of the night.
